ZEW – the Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research, a member of the WeLaR Project, is organising a debate in Brussels on 18 April, 2023 – Immigration and its impacts on EU labour markets.Experts from EU Institutions, labour unions, business and academia will discuss whether immigration to Europe can be a remedy for shortages on the labour market, and how migration interacts with job quality, wages and employment.
A recently published ZEW policy brief by WeLaR researcher Dr Katrin Sommerfeld, Tailoring Migration Policies to Address Labour Shortages, will provide the basis for the debate. Among the other speakers will be ZEW’s Prof. Dr Nicolas R. Ziebarth; Ben Butters (CEO Eurochambres); Barbara Kaufmann (DG EMPL, Director Employment); and Barbara Surdykowska (Solidarność).
The participants will deliberate on approaches to facilitating labour mobility and promoting integration of migrants.
The event, part of the ZEW Lunch Debates series, will take place on 18 April at 12:00-2:00 pm at Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union, Rue Belliard 60 –62 B-1040 Brussels.
